We have a great new free pocket guide taking you to trails that are hidden gems not usually used by a lot of people. Find copies at visitor centers on the islands (list at the bottom of this page) and at many merchants, as well. You can also take a look online, download the guide, download single pages, and watch videos about many of the trails.
While this is an excellent day hike, you should be aware that some planning is required to best enjoy this trail as it is a one-way trek down to the Valley Floor from Glacier Point. Plan to leave your vehicle at Glacier Point and have a second vehicle return you to the point at the end of the trek, or the better option is to take the Glacier Point Tour one-way to the top of Glacier Point and hike back down to Happy Isles, utilize the free shuttle bus to return to your vehicle. If you are interested in a strenuous (but totally amazing hike!) you may also wish to add the Four Mile Trail to the Panorama Hike, which is 14 miles. This way you start at the Mist Trail and continue to the top of Glacier Point by foot, descend Glacier Point down to the Valley Floor.

The Bica da Cana Pinaculo hike is one of the less popular trails on Madeira Island but it offers some incredible views. After enjoying the Bica da Cana viewpoint with scenes of the cloud-filled valley below and views out to Pico Ruivo and Pico do Arieiro, you can then head off on the 4.7km loop trail. The hike takes you to the base of the Pinnacle, a striking rock formation that most people admire from the ground but I decided to free-climb the pinnacle to the top.
The Isle of Wight walks listed below include a variety of circular walks graded from easier routes to more demanding longer routes. The walks include many of the most important landscape features including the Needles. All walks are free to download and print, and all routes have GPS files.
