MLB The Show 25 – The Best Game for Long-Term Fans, But It Misses Some Key Innovations

If you’ve been following MLB Themlb the show stubs Show for years, then MLB The Show 25 is likely to be the best entry in the series for you. With its refined mechanics, updated player rosters, and solid gameplay, it’s clear that the developers know what fans love. However, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t push the envelope as much as some might have hoped.

For one, the game is beautifully presented. The graphics are incredible, and the attention to detail in the stadiums, lighting, and player animations is impressive. It feels like a true simulation of the sport, and for fans of baseball, it’s hard not to be swept up in the realism. The gameplay itself is tight, with responsive controls and satisfying moments whether you're hitting a walk-off home run or diving for a highlight-reel catch.

However, while the game is visually stunning and polished, it doesn’t do enough to move the series forward in terms of gameplay innovation. The core mechanics, including batting, pitching, and fielding, remain largely the same as in previous years. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing—MLB The Show has always had strong mechanics—but it does feel like an opportunity was missed to introduce something truly new.

The “Franchise” mode is also more refined but still feels somewhat static. There are updates to scouting and minor league systems, but the core experience remains largely unchanged. I was hoping for more dynamic team-building options, such as player personalities influencing team chemistry or deeper contract negotiations.

One of the more exciting new additions is the “Diamond Dynasty” mode, which continues to offer fun ways for players to build their dream teams through card collection and player customization. However, while this mode is packed with content, it can also feel like a bit of a grind if you’re not willing to spend money to unlock premium content.

At the end of the day, MLB The Show 25 is a fantastic baseball simulation that will please long-term fans of the series. It refines everything that made previous entries great, but it doesn’t take any big risks or introduce revolutionary changes to the formula. If you're looking for incremental improvements and a more polished experience, MLB The Show 25 has you covered. If you’re hoping for something truly groundbreaking, though, you might be a bit disappointed.
